Men vs. Women: Skin Care Routines are Not One-Size-Fits-All

Men may be from Mars, and women from Venus, but we both need to take care of our skin. While you don’t often see guys perusing the skin care aisle, it’s just as important that men care for their skin. Skin care is not just for beauty after all, but for health.

Have you ever noticed that some companies make skin products specifically for men? This is not a marketing ploy- male skin tends to differ from female skin. For one thing, men have more testosterone which causes more sebum production. Because of this, males tend to have oilier skin, making them prone to larger pores, blackheads, and adult acne.

Do you know the old saying that men have “thick skin”? Well, there is actually some truth to this adage: on average a man’s skin is 25% thicker than a woman’s. As a consequence, the cellular turnover rate for men is significantly slower. Read  more
